PRAYER FOR SUDAN -
MEMORIAL FOR
DR. JOHN GARANG

Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love, be with your daughters and sons in the Sudan and throughout the world as they grieve the death of their leader, John Garang de Mabior and his companions; comfort all who mourn, strengthen them to know that the dream of peace which he served lives within them; give them the courage to recommit themselves to building a new future out of the suffering and ashes of the past; guide the Church in the Sudan by your Spirit to continue its mission of reconciliation and caring as she lays to rest one of her sons in the village of his birth; and may the world renew its commitment to support the healing and rebuilding of the nation and Church in the Sudan; all this we ask in the name of the Prince of Peace, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
